Former Boston Breakers and Chicago Red Stars midfielder Chioma Igwe has signed a two-year contract to play for SC Freiburg, a German club recently promoted to Bundesliga after finishing first in the South Division of 2. Bundesliga this past season. Igwe will join SC Freiburg at the end of June 2011. Until then, she will play for the Bay Area Breeze of Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL).
Igwe is no stranger to Germany. She played for 1.FC Saarbrücken in 2. Bundesliga in 2008 after graduating from Santa Clara University. Her season with the Bay Area Breeze in WPSL kicks off Saturday, May 14 against the California Storm. The Breeze play eight of their 14 games prior to the end of June.
