The Boston Breakers improved to 2-1-0 after defeating the Seattle Reign FC, 3-0, at Jordan Field. It’s the second win a row for the Breakers, a team coming off a 3-15-2 season in 2016. The Seattle Reign move to 1-1-1 in week three of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.

Adriana Leon put the Breakers on the score board in the 11th minute. Natasha Dowie sent in a cross from the right that hit defender Merritt Mathias. Leon took the deflected ball, dribbled around Seattle’s defenders, and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer.

Seconds later, Seattle had an opportunity to equalize but Boston’s Julie King was there to clear a Megan Rapinoe shot off the line.

In the 15th minute, Rose Lavelle scored her first professional goal and doubled the Breakers’ lead after her right-footed shot found the back of the net. Leon with the assist on the through ball.

Seattle opened up the half with more urgency and pressed Boston. Abby Smith made an early second-half save to keep the score at 2-0. Smith would have six saves on the night and added another shutout to her stat sheet this season.

Boston scored in the 52nd minute off a Dowie volley. Leon was involved yet again, with a flick over the top that found Dowie, who beat Kopmeyer far post with a screamer of a shot.

Leon was a terror on the night, finishing with a goal and two assists.

Boston hosts undefeated North Carolina, coming off a 3-1 win over Orlando. Seattle travels to Portland in the first Cascadia Clash of the season. The Thorns are coming off a tight, 1-0 win over Chicago.
