NCAA Week 6: Players to Watch

F – Amanda Frisbie (Portland, Senior) – The Senior leader had a big weekend with her return to the front line for the Pilots, scoring three goals in two matches, including both game-winners. Her efforts in the 4-2 victory over Wyoming were most noteworthy, collecting two goals and assisting on another.

F – Pia Rijsdijk (Alabama, Junior) – A two goal performance over Vanderbilt was impressive for the Junior from the Netherlands. But the big strike for Rijsdijk came on the weekend as she put home the eventual game winning goal in a 4-2 win over Tennessee, a big win for the Alabama program.

F – Rachel Hill (UConn, Freshman) – The UConn Freshman had a career weekend as she scored her first hat trick in a 4-1 win over Houston. Hill also added a goal in the Huskies 2-1 win over SMU, giving her nine goals for the season and is now tied for first in The American in goals scored.

M – Raquel Rodriguez (Penn State, Sophomore)– The Costa Rican international had a two goal, one assist weekend in pacing the Nittany Lions to two wins this week. Rodriguez had a goal and an assist in Penn State’s 6-1 win over Purdue and contributed with a goal in the 4-1 victory against Indiana.

M – Cari Roccaro (Notre Dame, Sophomore) – It was a banner weekend for the USA U-20 World Cup winner. On Thursday, the midfielder netted her first career hat trick in a 5-0 win over Maryland, then picked up a goal and a single game career high of two assists in the 3-0 win over Pittsburgh. Overall, Roccaro scored four goals, two assists and 10 points in the two wins.

M – Sophia Huerta (Santa Clara, Junior) – The Broncos picked up wins over Kansas and Cal Poly and Huerta was a key contributor in each match. Against Kansas, the Junior scored two goals and assisted on a third in the 3-2 victory over the Jayhawks. Huerta also added an assist in the 4-0 win over Cal Poly on Sunday.

M – Nicholette DiGiacomo (Denver, Senior) – The Pioneers went into a tough atmosphere at BYU and walked out with a 1-0 victory on Thursday. DiGiacomo netted her fifth goal of the season with three minutes left in the match to give the Pioneers the win. Then on Sunday at UC-Santa Barbara, the Senior midfielder had an assist via a corner kick in Denver’s 2-1 win on the road. DiGiacomo has five goals and two assists now after her performance this weekend.

D – Karlie Mueller (Texas A&M, Sophomore) – On a weekend where Texas A&M outscored their opponents 11-0, Mueller had a hand in keeping the shutout streak for the Aggies. On the offensive end, she assisted on three goals in the 8-0 win over Mississippi State, one shy of the school record, and had another two assists in the 3-0 victory against Vanderbilt.

D – Kylie Schwarz (Wisconsin, Freshman) – Played all 200 minutes on the weekend as the Freshman was a noticeable contributor in keeping shutouts in both matches for Wisconsin. The Badgers played to a 0-0 draw at Michigan and a 2-0 win on the road against Michigan State. Schwarz and the Wisconsin defense has held clean sheets in three of the last four matches and remain unbeaten in Big 10 play.

D – Andie Romness (South Carolina, Junior) – In a crucial weekend in SEC play, the Junior defender played all 180 minutes in South Carolina’s two victories on the weekend. Romness also assisted on a crucial goal for the Gamecocks 2-1 win over Auburn on Friday.

G – Amanda Engel (Marquette, Sophomore) – The Golden Eagles recorded three victories and the Sophomore netminder picked up all three wins, with two of them recorded as shutouts. Engel made a big penalty kick save in the last five minutes of the match against Villanova on Sunday, preserving the 1-0 win and the perfect 3-0-0 week.
