WPS news on Cat Whitehill, Stephanie Cox, Yael Averbuch, and Caroline Seger

Another busy day around Women’s Professional Soccer as the Atlanta Beat signed former Washington Freedom and U.S. Women’s National Team defender Cat Whitehill, the WNY Flash signed former Sky Blue FC and USWNT midfielder Yael Averbuch, and the Boston Breakers re-signed Stephanie Cox. Also, WNY Flash Head Coach Aaren Lines talks to Our Game Magazine about one of his newest players, Caroline Seger.The Beat announced late Monday afternoon the signing of Whitehill, who started 23 games for the Washington Freedom in 2010. In two seasons with Washington, Whitehill played in 42 games and had four goals and four assists … Averbuch, who spent two seasons with Sky Blue FC, was signed today by the Flash. Averbuch started 33 of the 41 games she played with the New Jersey club. She scored one goal in 2009, the year Sky Blue FC won the WPS Championship … Cox will return for another season with the Boston Breakers. The U.S. Women’s National Team defender re-signed with the Breakers Monday. In 2010, Cox started in all 23 games for Boston and finished with one goal and three assists.

WNY Flash Head Coach Aaran Lines talked to Our Game Magazine Monday night about Caroline Seger, who was recently traded to the Flash from the Philadelphia Independence. “Caroline is an experienced European professional that I know will step up and be a leader on and of the field for the WNY Flash next season,” Lines said. “She is a relatively experienced player, but is still only 25 years old. She learned a lot in her first WPS season, and I expect to see her even better in 2011.”
