NWSL Announces U.S. Allocations for 2016 Season

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has announced the list of 24 players who will be allocated to the league by U.S. Soccer for the upcoming 2016 season. The list includes four new allocations.

New Faces

New allocations for the 2016 season include Jaelene Hinkle and Samantha Mewis of the Western New York Flash, Lindsey Horan of the Portland Thorns FC, and Emily Sonnett, the Virgina senior expected to go No. 1 at the 2016 NWSL College Draft.

Six players who were allocated in 2015 are no longer in the allocation pool. Shannon Boxx (Chicago Red Stars), Lauren Holiday (FC Kansas City), Rachel Van Hollebeke (Portland Thorns FC), and Abby Wambach have retired. Lori Chalupny (Chicago Red Stars) was added to the allocated pool later but has also retired. Kristie Mewis (Boston Breakers) and Nicole Barnhart (FC Kansas City) are under standard player contracts.
