Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has added Brazilian international Mônica to its roster. The center back most recently played for Ferroviária in Brazil and also had a long stint with SV Neulengbach in Austria.
“We’re excited to have Monica join Orlando Pride in the team’s inaugural season,” said head coach Tom Sermanni. “Monica is a very talented player with invaluable experience at both the club and international levels, which will be highly beneficial for us as we continue to build a competitive roster.”
Mônica, whose full name is Monica Hickmann Alves, featured for Brazil at the 2015 FIFA World Cup. She scored her first international goal against Ecuador in the group stage of the 2015 Pan American Games, with Brazil taking home the gold medal.
The signing occupies one of Orlando’s four international roster spots for the 2016 NWSL season.
