Players Abroad: Ten Set Out for Trip to Stamford Bridge

As Rachael Caldwell posted last week, tomorrow is the first leg of the quarterfinal round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.Here are the match-ups :

Arsenal vs. ASD Torres CF
Olympique Lyon vs. LdB Malmö
VfL Wolfsburg vs. WFC Rossiyanka
Juvisy vs. Göteborg FC

Of the two French teams, two Swedish teams, one German team, one English team, one Italian team and one Russian team, there are ten North Americans playing in the tournament.

Megan Rapinoe – Olympique Lyon
Sandra Couture (CAN) – Juvisy
Rebecca Smith (NZL WNT) – VfL Wolfsburg
Arianna Criscione- ASD Torres CF
Camile Levin – Göteborg FC
Yael Averbuch – Göteborg FC
Ali Riley (NZL WNT) – LdB Malmö
Kristen Edmonds – WFC Rossiyanka
Christina Julien (CAN) – WFC Rossiyanka

New to this year’s UCL circuit are USWNT midfielder Megan Rapinoe, Canadian WNT forward Christina Julien and Kristen Edmonds. The rest have been traveling the Champions League road since October. It’s worth noting that Göteborg FC began their UCL campaign with four Americans, but Christen Press has since moved to Swedish side Tyresö FF and Ingrid Wells to the NWSL’s Washington Spirit.
