Washington selected forward Ashley Sanchez out of UCLA with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft.
In an earlier trade with Sky Blue, Washington received the overall Nos. 4, 13, and 17 picks in the draft and a first-round pick in the 2021 NWSL College Draft for a player to be named later. With that No. 4 pick, the Washington Spirit selected forward Ashley Sanchez.
Sanchez, out of UCLA, made 23 starts in 24 appearances for the Bruins, scoring seven times while adding 15 assists. Sanchez entered the draft a year early, electing to forgo her senior season with UCLA.
In March 2016, Sanchez was called into the senior U.S. Women’s National Team camp but was not capped. At the youth level, she captained the 2016 U-17 USWNT at the World Cup in Jordan and also represented the U.S. a month later as a member the U-20 USWNT at the World Cup in Papua New Guinea.
