US U-20 Camp Before La Manga

The US Under-20 Women’s National Team reports to Lakewood Ranch, Florida, this week for training camp, two friendly matches and a scrimmage. The camp runs Feb. 22-March 2 and includes two games against China PR’s U-20 squad as well as a scrimmage against the University of Florida.

China is one of three AFC teams to qualify for the 2014 edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The US-China matches are scheduled for Feb. 26 (4 p.m. ET) and March 1 (1 p.m. ET).

The scrimmage with Florida is scheduled for Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. ET. The Gators opened their spring schedule on Feb. 15 with a 5-1 win over Tampa. US U-20 Savannah Jordan notched a hat trick in the win.

Two players from the US’ CONCACAF qualifying campaign in January are not on the training camp roster: Makenzy Doniak, who was injured during the tournament, and Lauren Kaskie. Six players have been added: Morgan Stearns, Claire Wagner, Christina Gibbons, Ashley Meier, Mallory Pugh and Jaycie Johnson. Mallory Pugh is fresh off competition with the US U-17 side in the four-nation U-17 Women’s NTC Invitational, which included FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers New Zealand, Japan and China.

Following the camp in Florida, the US U-20s will head to La Manga, Spain, to compete against their European counterparts.
