Alli Lipsher makes WPS history

Atlanta Beat keeper Alli Lipsher became the first player in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) history to win back-to-back Player of the Week awards. WPS announced today that Lipsher won the award for the second straight week after her performance in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against the Western New York Flash.

Lipsher made 13 saves in Atlanta’s come-from-behind tie with the Flash. The week before, in a 1-0 win over Sky Blue FC, Lipsher stopped 13 shots on goal. Lipsher is second in WPS with 16 saves (behind Boston’s Alyssa Naeher, who has 20 in three games) and has played in two games for Atlanta this year.

This past offseason, Lipsher played for the Newcastle Jets in the Westfield W-League in Australia. The past two WPS seasons, she was a member of the Boston Breakers organization.
