Boston Aztec U23’s roster released, New England Mutiny announce home schedule

Boston Aztec U23 of the Women’s Premier Soccer League announced its 2011 roster. Last year’s team lost to eventual WPSL champion Boston Aztec Breakers Reserves, 2-1, in overtime in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the New England Mutiny, released their home schedule. Both teams play in the WPSL East-Northeast Division.

For the Aztec U23 women’s team, Quinnipiac’s Player of the Year Fortuna Velaz (who led the university in scoring) heads the name of standouts on the roster, which also includes Cat Walker (San Diego State University), Jessica Luscinski (Boston University), and Amanda Webster (Providence College), who are back from last summer’s team. Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Week Julie Morrissey (University of Cincinnati) also brings her talent to the Aztecs.

Returning midfielders include Maddy Bissaillon (UMass Lowell), Tori McCombs (University of Michigan), Alex Bengston (Bryant University), and Morgan Andrews (Boston College), who is also a member of the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team. New to the team are midfielders Molly Nizzoli (Fresno State), Megan McGoldrick (Boston University), Marina Moschitto (Dartmouth College), and Brittany Schandelmayer (Long Island University). Celia Balf (University of Albany) and Clare Pleuler (Boston University) will make their Aztec U23 debut this year.

Returning defenders include Katherine Donnelly (Boston University), Jenna Roncarati (Providence College), and Alana Figurido (Franklin Pierce University). Also on defense is Megan McQueeny (San Diego State University), a new addition to the team. In goal, the Aztec U23s will have Erin Quinlan (University of Hartford) and Stephanie Gordon (UMass Amherst.)

The New England Mutiny will open their 2011 season May 14 in Northampton, Mass., against SoccerPlus CT.  The Mutiny will play four additional home games (June 4 vs. the Albany Alleycats; June 11 vs. Boston Aztec Breakers Reserves; June 25 vs. CFC Passion; and July 9 vs. Seacoast United).
