Former Saint Louis Athletica and Atlanta Beat keeper Hope Solo will soon be reunited with some of her teammates from the U.S. Women’s National Team, joining Abby Wambach, Christie Rampone, Lindsay Tarpley, and Shannon Boxx, on the team formerly known as the Washington Freedom, according to sources close to the league.
Solo had right shoulder surgery and missed the USWNT World Cup qualifiers. The recovery period for the surgery was projected as five to six months. She was called into the USWNT training camp earlier this month, but was not cleared to play. In 2010, the 29-year-old Solo finished second in the league in shutouts (six) and third in goals against average (1.64). In her two WPS seasons, the two-time WPS all-star has a total of 14 shutouts in 39 games. In 2009, she was named WPS Goalkeeper of the Year.
Other players who have signed with magicTalk SC this offseason include Ella Masar (Chicago Red Stars) and Johanna Rasmussen (acquired via trade from Atlanta Beat). At the 2011 WPS Draft, magicTalk SC General Manager Briana Scurry and Head Coach Mike Lyons represented the team, selecting Meghan Klingenberg (UNC), Christen Press (Stanford), Omolyn Davis (George Mason), Amanda DaCosta (Florida State), and Katie Fraine (Florida).
The entire roster for magicTalk SC and the location where the team will play some of its home games will soon be announced, according to owner Dan Borislow, who said last week that magicTalk SC will sign two more internationals (one player from Australia who has two years WPS experience) and a player from Canada.
