Christen Press: chance to play in WPS has been “a long time coming”

Stanford forward Christen Press, projected to be a top three pick in Friday’s WPS Draft, talked about taking the next step to the professional level. Calling from the Missouri Athletic Club last Friday, where she won the MAC Hermann Trophy, Press said: “I’m very excited. It’s been a long time coming.”

Press said she has talked to a couple of teams, but didn’t say which ones. She said she’s looking forward to the opportunity to play in WPS no matter where she ends up, and she wouldn’t mind taking the field with some of her former Stanford and U.S. U-23 teammates. “Ali (Riley), Kelley (O’Hara), Nicole Barnhart, Lauren Fowlkes. I’d love to play alongside any of them. It’ll be really exciting.”

The WPS Draft takes place at 1 p.m. (Eastern time) Friday, Jan. 14, at the NSCAA Convention in Baltimore.
