With two wins in their first two games of the Torneio Internacional Interclubes de Futebol Feminino, Santos sits at the top of the table. Santos began the tournament with a 4-2 win over Swedish side Umeå IK and then followed that up with a 1-0 win over Palmeiras. Foz Cataratas beat Umeå IK, 3-2, Sunday, four days after drawing, 1-1, with Palmeiras.
Suzane, Marta, Maurine, and Bia scored for Santos against Umeå IK. Maurine’s goal highlighted the win. She curled a corner kick right inside the near post, a goal that put Santos ahead, 2-0. Hanna Pettersson and Ogonna Chukwudi scored for Umeå IK. Santos then beat Palmeiras, 1-0, Sunday, getting the lone goal from Suzane off an assist from Marta, who flew directly after the game to Zurich, Switzerland for the FIFA awards.
Foz Cataratas finished the second round of play with a huge win over Umeå IK Sunday. Hanna Pettersson put Umeå up, 1-0, in the first minute before Debinha equalized one minute later. Linda Molin put Umeå ahead, 2-1, in the ninth minute, but Foz Cataratas tied it up on Debinha’s strike in the 13th minute. They took the lead for good when Gi scored in the 34th minute.
The next round is scheduled for Wednesday with Santos taking on second-place Foz Cataratas and Palmeiras facing Umeå. The finals and third-place match will be played Saturday.
