Our Game Magazine extras from December issue include updates on Heather Garriock and Melissa Gavin

Here’s some stuff we picked up off the cutting room floor from the December issue of Our Game Magazine …

Melissa Gavin, featured in the Quick Kicks segment, was recently named a High School All-American following her senior season at Duxbury High School (Massachusetts). The Scorpions Soccer Club forward also committed to play soccer next fall at Yale University. She finished this past high school season as the top scorer in her league and one of the best in the state, even ahead of her Scorpions Soccer Club teammate and U.S. U-20 midfielder Samantha Mewis. With Duxbury High this fall, Gavin finished third in the state in scoring (29 goals, 15 assists, 44 points, in 23 games). Gavin’s team posted a record of 18-3-2, losing in the Division 2 Sectional championship game.

Heather Garriock

Featured in Center Stage this month, Heather Garriock has helped lead her team to a great run in the W-League. But the midfielder’s team, Sydney FC, saw its 14-game unbeaten streak snapped last week with a 2-1 loss to the Newcastle Jets. The winning goalkeeper for Newcastle was Allison Lipsher, who played the last two seasons with the Boston Breakers of the WPS. Despite the loss, Garriock and Sydney FC are looking to get back into first place with a win Saturday (Dec. 11) against Perth Glory. Brisbane Roar currently sit in first place in the W-League. On Nov. 21, Garriock had an assist in a 4-1 win over Adelaide United, which gave Sydney FC, a.k.a. the Sky Blues, their 14th straight win.
