What Pressure? Host Brazil Opens Up Rio 2016 with Win Over China PR

Mônica opened the scoring for host Brazil in the 36th minute of a Group E match in Rio de Janeiro. Mônica’s header found the back of the net, catching China’s Zhao Lina rushing back to her line where a defender was unable to keep the ball from bouncing in.

Brazil’s second of the match came from a ball played out of the back by Andressinha, who found Marta make a run down the right side. Marta’s left-footed pass in toward goal found Andressa Alves, who volleyed it into the back of the net.

Cristiane added a third in added time with a well-taken header. It was Cristiane’s 13th Olympic goal spanning four tournaments (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012), and puts the striker in a tie for most Olympic goals.
