College Cup

Penn State Defeats Rutgers, 2-0

In the first semifinal of the 2015 College Cup, Penn State defeated Rutgers, 2-0. Frannie Crouse opened the scoring in the first half after jumping on an errant back pass from Rutgers. Freshman Kaleigh Riehl scored her first PSU goal and put the game out of reach in the second half.

Duke Takes Down Florida State. 2-0

In the other semifinal, upstart Duke upset defending champions Florida State, 2-0. In the first half, Duke’s Kayla McCoy scored her eighth goal of the season off a Toni Payne pass. Payne would ice the game later — as late it gets — scoring with one second left in the game.

So it’s Penn State versus Duke on Sunday. Check out OGM’s staff predictions. Hint: Not one knucklehead has Penn State winning.

World Player of the Year Nominations
Carli Lloyd, Aya Miyama, and Célia Šašić were nominated for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year award. Lloyd’s strike from midfield in the World Cup final did not make the final list for the Puskás Award.

U-20s

CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying
Final rosters and updated schedule released.

Of note:

The U-20 U.S. Women’s National Team opened up qualifying against Mexico, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Mexico battled back from a 0-2 deficit to earn the point. It’s the first time the U.S. has failed to beat Mexico in tournament and the first time since 2008 it has failed to win in qualifying.
