USWNT vs. France Match Photos: 06-14-2014

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he U.S. Women’s National Team defeated France, 1-0, in front of a crowd of 9,799 in Tampa, Florida, on June 14, 2014. Sydney Leroux netted the game-winner in the 21st minute off a Christen Press assist.

Leroux earned her seventh goal for the national team this year while Press garnered her second assist of the year. Hope Solo earned her 71st shutout, tying the record set by Briana Scurry. Christie Rampone was named Budweiser Woman of the Match.

The teams meet again on June 19, 2014, at Rentschler Field in Connecticut.

Photojournalist Cynthia Hobgood chronicled the game and will be there to capture the action in the second game of the two-game series.

Cynthia Hobgood is a Washington, DC-based digital communications professional, independent photographer and writer. Hobgood started covering soccer as a journalist in 2000 for various weekly/daily publications and ultimately the Associated Press (while also covering other pro and NCAA sports primarily in the DC area.) She also works in nonprofit communications, having helped launched a national youth nonprofit and now works on the national GradNation Campaign for America’s Promise Alliance. Hobgood has a master’s degree in Sports Management from The George Washington University School of Business.
